Bangkok Post : In excess

The challenge of Price's paintings, as was the challenge posed to the artist, is to make sense of what is only deceptively straightforward: the immediate, sensational impact of, again, this city's nocturnal excesses. The black and white-coloured paintings have an impersonal sense of misery. Some paintings resemble a fuzzy TV screen and in others a detailed motif floats against an abstract ground. A series of small paintings of torsos suggest a reference in classical Greek sculpture, but drained of elegance and sophistication. Where he uses sepia-coloured wash (such as in Away from the Old Sod) it resembles the stains of human waste. Looking over State of Play, one quickly gains a sense of how Price's subject matter lends itself to stereotyping, ridicule and spectacle. some are monochrome and a few employ a daring use of colour. Price's vision is relentlessly bleak.

[TRAVEL REVIEW] Must see Bangkok Temples and Wats

In a mere couple of days stay in Bangkok, I visited not one, but close to 10 different "Wats". Touring Bangkok will be incomplete if one misses out on the "Wats". Frankly speaking, it wasn't my intention at all to visit that many, in fact, my initial plan was to visit only Wat Pho and Wat Phra Kaew. However, its hard to resist knowing that there is a wealth of temples within easy reach in Bangkok. A detour to Wat Pho and Wat Phra Kaew is a must. For someone who rarely visits museum nor find paintings a valuable art form, I simply do not know how to appreciation architecture....

DIY Family Touring in Bangkok

Almost all of my travels are DIY and I was expecting that going around Bangkok to shop with my sister, mom and two aunties wouldn't be so much of a headache. At the end of the trip, they were all happy with, of course, the clothes they bought and they're "getting lost" abroad experience. It's the weekend after all and we had to catch Jatujak (Chatuchak), Bangkok's largest weekend market. The three of them slept the whole night while my sister and I hung out near the hostel. The titas (aunts) didn't buy much from there though, they were a bit disappointed with the merchandise, especially the clothes. When we got home, they told us they wanted to go to Beijing and I was like "HELL NO, M*THERF*CKER. I'm still deciding whether God can think for him/her/it-self or if the God I want is just a part of the universe. So we attended one of the largest (or is it the largest. Here's our family photo: We left Manila on a Saturday night, meaning we have to go to church the following day. )...

Katherine Jones: A Thai-British artist with a passion for abstract ...

Katherine Jones , also known as Kat to her friends, is a 29 years old Bangkok-based Thai-British artist who has had a fulfilling life as an artist throughout Asia. She has done a variety of jobs in the past 11 years, from teaching kindergarten, to opening a casting agency, to managing a night club, and to managing an art studio. Currently she is Studio Manager at Attic Studios, a friendly art school in the heart of Bangkok on Sukhumvit Soi 31. In 1998 she moved back to Bangkok. ’” But, eventually, her mother learned to respect her determination and, probably, got used to Kat’s stubbornness. She was born in Thailand but grew up in Singapore and Hong Kong, where she did most of her schooling....
