A building that formerly housed a post office in downtown Ho Chi Minh City has been unoccupied for more than a year. There is just a small restaurant in front of the building on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, District 3, which is run by the building security guard who gets the space free in place of a salary. The owner of a building on Cong Quynh Street, District 1, said it has been available for rent since early last year, but found no tenants. Due to the size of ORIANA we had to dock some way from HCM City and travel some two hours by coach to reach the capital of the southern part of Vietnam. On leaving the ship our coach had to cross a muddy area about 400-500 yards long which was just rough ground before we got to the road. The daft thing was there was a road adjacent to this but no gate, at least not in the right place....
